Chris, I also have great memories of playing at the Quarry. I can remember one winter the water iced over. Myself and some others decided to walk out to the island. Halfway out , someone said."what if the ice breaks"? Robert (Bobbydarg) said" I'll be O.K. cos I've got on my Wellies&qu...

The building in the picture is a block of flats that sat up Mount Pleasant behind old Jimmy Doo's shop. My school mate David Edwards stayed there in the fifties.

Re: " A Saunter roon Stinstin"
Going Back to the estate J.D. talked about. If my memory serves me right, the estate belonged to Lady Bowman and the small house attached to the walled garden was the estate gardners house. He lived there with his wife and two children and used to take my father, my brothers and me through his house...

Chris the picture you posted is of Ardeer house. I have an old map dating back to 1897 and it shows Ardeer House.
Hillcrest Drive area was called Woodhead Plantation. One house not mentioned is Mayville House. It sits off the Old High road and is where Bonnie Lesley was born.

[quote="bobbydarg"]Can we take a wee saunter in the other direction, before we miss it out? If we turn left at the cross and head out towards Saltcoats, there are a few places we could have a blether about. Reid's chip shop was on the corner beside the Grange picture house. A better fish &...

[quote="little plum"]Aileen, I remember the small gauge railway. I might be wrong when I say it was hand made by the engineering section of the Rec club. I also think it was behind the cricket pavilion, Townhead side. L.P. you were right when you said they were built by the model engineeri...
