Re: Granvue Stadium Dog Track - Stevenston
Thanks for taking that trouble Hughie. I still cannot visualise how the wheel was driven to pull the rope, and more to the point, how did it get round the bends? I wonder how many people will recognise the name 'inqenu?' My father told me when I was a youngster it was pronounced 'inginee, and meant ...

Re: Granvue Stadium Dog Track - Stevenston
Again, apologies for my laziness. Just spent nearly an hour on Google to very little avail. Wikipedia informs me that O.P. Smith introduced the mechanical hare in America in 1912, with the altruistic aim of stopping the killing of the jack-rabbits. The mechanical hare was introduced to Britain in 19...

Re: Stevenston - On This Day In History
Thanks for the suggestions folks.
However, I was more curious about how the hare (or ball) was propelled round its track at the side of the dog-track.

Granvue Stadium Dog Track - Stevenston
As a boy, I can remember hearing the hare. You could hear it for miles.
Anybody got any ideas what a ball-hare is?

[ the garden bridge and the roundabout under the Isle of Man Sorry again folks, somebody is going to have to explain this one. JD Sorry again - for my laziness - folks. I've just googled them. The man really is ready to be locked up with the Isle of Man thing. Where does he think the money is comin...

The first personalised reg.no. I remember, and I was still at St Mick's was POT 80. It belonged to the wholesale potato merchant McDowall from Porten Cross.

When I was living in London at the back-end of the 60's, I saw a big green American car for sale in a showroom; CLT1C.
If I had the money, I would have bought it and sold it in Glasgow. I'd have made a few bob on the deal, I think.

On the other hand Glenshena, it says a lot for our democratic, peace-loving culture that we don't think it necessary to have our politicians protected. As the saying goes, 'you can't legislate for idiots.' Be glad that, unfortunately, there are but just a few around. Fransen is more to be pitied tha...

Re: Bellhill, Stevenston?
I've been racking my brains as well. The only 'hills' that I ever heard of in Stevenston are Mill Hill, which still exists; the Doo Hill, which was a flat area between the Townhead and Glencairn St. and is now Mount Pleasant, and the sandy hills, the waste-ground which was between Boglemart St. and ...

I'm sorry folks.
You just don't get it.
TTT's is about Stevenston, Saltcoats and Ardrossan and the the folk who either live there or come from there.
If you want to watch the Waterford Whispers, do it on line, not on here.

Re: Will I? Won't I? Such a choice
Stivis, hi. I had never heard of the Waterford Whispers. I did pick up on the satire, but found the tone negative and unpleasant. The piece was thrust upon me out of the blue where I had no clue to where it was coming from. I was thus at a considerable disadvantage in placing its antecedents. This i...

Got it. I was at St. Mick's at the same time as Bobby. Played many a tanner-ba' game in the playground with him.
