Re: Who Was Patrick O'Connor? Down the Bath Rocks

At Hunterston in the 1980's there was an amazing character called Michael (Mick) O'connor, AKA 'Nick Nick'. I believe Patrick O'Connor was his Uncle.

What I'm thinking right now is that I haven't posted on here for a long while, and it's nice to see so many familiar names still on the forum. :)

Re: Chapelhill Mount Water Tower

Hi Everyone. I haven't posted on here for some time. I hope everyone is well and staying safe through this current crisis that engulfs us. I have been working from home for over five weeks now, and when I finish I have been going for walks all over the place to preserve my sanity. The other night I ...

Re: Old betting shops in the three towns

Hi all. Bringing this thread back because I am trying to work out who owned the bookies at the Hayocks shops in Stevenston, and what shop it was located in. I think it was there within the last 20 years Also, was there ever one at Ashgrove Road shops in Ardrossan (also within last 20 years) or is my...

Re: Campbells, Ardrossan

I was informed by Tom McGrattan at the weekend that Aldo Agostini was a barman for Emerson before taking on the pub himself.

Re: Campbells, Ardrossan

You're right PT. It's the correct Thomas Campbell. The valuation rolls show Thomas Campbell, spirit merchant as tenant/occupier of the pub in Princes Lane (later Princes Place). After his death his wife Mary took over until her death in 1925. From then on the trustees of Mrs Mary Campbell were name...

Re: Campbells, Ardrossan

Thanks for all the latest updates. Looks like I certainly stumbled on the right Campbells, albeit maybe I was too early in my estimation of when the mirror first appeared. The present day licensee is interested in this, as her family has had a connection with the pub for many years, and have run it ...

Re: Campbells, Ardrossan

I think I might have nailed this. After much online searching I ended up in the British Newspaper Archive. I found not only that the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald archive is referencing the Castlehill Vaults as far back as the late 1800's, and indeed carrying adverts for the pub, but the publicatio...

Campbells, Ardrossan

Hello all, I haven't posted for a while. Hope everyone is well. In the Castlehill Vaults last night we briefly debated who or what 'Campbells Ardrossan' refers to in the large mirror in the public bar. For those with Facebook you can see a picture of the mirror from the link. https://www.facebook.co...

Re: Browns Shop in Glasgow Street

I knew there was an older topic on here about Browns. I was looking through some old e-mails today and I found one Tom McGrattan had sent me with a photo showing Brown's shop in Glasgow Street virtually standing alone as the new houses were being built behind it in the early 1970's. The shop was sti...

Incidentally, there were courts on either side of the Town Hall.
So the small Civic Centre hall was built on the other courts then.
