Captain Robert COCHRANE (b. Saltcoats, 1807) and wife Ellen SMITH (b. Stevenston, 1812).
Robert came to the U.S. when he was twenty-five years old (1832). Ellen joined him in 1834 and, after a short stay in New York City, they moved to Oswego, where, on 04 October 1837, son David Mitchell COCHRANE was born. David followed in his father's footsteps and also became a Captain on the Great Lakes.
