Hi. There, Google Scottish Place Names......there are lots of towns beginning with Ard.....ie Ardrossan.....it usually means high cliffs near the sea but Ardeer in Scotland does not have cliffs, it could also mean near the mouth or joining of rivers. Good Luck

Father John seems to have only an older son, Thomas,but there is a William marrying into the Hamiltons in Stevenston.

Patrick Warner
second son of John Warner of Irvine,educated at St Andrews,and became a Minister in 1667,recommended to the East India Company and became Minister of Port George in 1669.He returned to Scotland in 1677,and preached in Galoway.After the battle of Bothwell Bridge in 1697 he found it prudent to retire to Holland for a short time.He renewed his preaching in the West of Scotland,and in Dec.1681 married Mary ,dau.of William Guthrie Minister of Fenwick.After persecutions he was forced back to Holland and in 1687 took advantage of King Jame's indulgence and returned to Scotland.On the 24th March 1688 he was ordained Minister in Irvine.He retired in 1709 and returned to his own HOUSE OF ARDEER where he lived until after 1722.In 1708 he aquired the lands of ARDEER and DOVECOTHALL from ROBERT CUNINGHAME of AUCHENHARVE.

Grew up with the notion 'Ardchoille' which was just up the road, meant high woods.

The name Ardeer was originally Ard-dyir.
Ard an eminence
dyir a wilderness
"Topographical Account of the District of Cunningham"
